Earth Day is celebrated today, April 22, 2011, in the world and is a good cause for trend analysis and action undertaken on a global level with the aim of reducing the negative effects on the environment of society in general.
Over the past year, Energis followed the development and investments in renewable energy as one of the most efficient tools for positive action on climate change and these observations were presented in the framework of the first year of Energis. Renewable energy is the fastest growing energy sector and one of the areas which is least affected by economic crisis in 2010.
Remarkable development of almost all renewable energy sources in the past year shows that the race for the “free” energy global priority. Thus, in the European Union new installed capacity of renewable energy is over 60% of the total installed capacity of all energy sources in 2010 while other countries such as China and the United States showed significant results.
We are observing individual energy sources; wind power is significantly leading to a new installed capacities with a total of 38 GW. China alone installed over 33% of the total global installed wind power in the past year that was a record year for solar energy with new 7 GW of installed capacity, of which half is installed in Germany. All other sources, particularly biomass and
biogas, recorded significant growth particularly in regions with favorable natural and economic conditions for the development of these energy sources.
Very little has been done in this potentially very lucrative field in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past year. The Federation adopted a Decree on the Use of Renewable Energy and Cogeneration, which was changed by amendments in March 2011 and will come into force in early May this year. This regulation is a good basis for the development of this sector in BiH. Center Energis will make considerable efforts for the current year to become the year of renewable sources in BiH.
Renewable energy sources can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and therefore has a direct positive effect on climate change. In the celebration of Earth Day, the emphasis placed on promoting the use of energy from renewable sources which are supported by members of the European Union as well as all other Annex 1 Parties of the Kyoto Protocol.
Earth Day is the name of two holidays that are marked in spring and to 20 March and 22 April. The purpose of celebrating Earth Day is to draw attention to global environmental problems with the possibility of action to reduce human impact on the planet and to introduce measures that will ensure sustainable development. This year’s Earth Day marks the fortieth anniversary of the large number organizations worldwide to pressure on the governing structure with the aim of passing legislation that will address in a comprehensive, fair and realistic way to work on improving the global environmental situation.
