Bosnia and Herzegovina Fails to Meet Obligations under the Energy Community Treaty

Representatives EFECT coalition have explained the
reasons for the formation of the Coalition, its objectives, and launched the
initiative EFECTive Action whose implementation is underway with the financial
support of the European Union. In order to contribute to the final fulfillment
of international obligations in the field of energy and environmental
protection of the Energy Community Treaty, which is currently at a “dead
point”?

Mr. Janez Kopac, Director of the Energy Community introduced
the Coalition with the Secretariat’s work and the implementation of the Treaty which
Bosnia and Herzegovina signed in 2006. Mr. Kopac stressed that BiH has not made
the expected progress of the Treaty concerning the transposition of the Directives
of the European Union and the adoption of new legislation in the field of
energy. It is noted that BiH will face serious consequences if BiH does not
make any improvements soon.

The meeting also discussed the method of monitoring the
work of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of energy and
environmental protection as well as possibilities of future cooperation between
the EFECT Coalition with the Secretariat of the Energy Community.

Energy Community was represented by Mr. Janez Kopac,
Director and Mr. Borko Raicevic, Energy Efficiency expert and the EFECT Coalitions
was represented by Mr. Marko Nišandžiæ, CRP Tuzla, Mrs. Alenka Savic, CRP Tuzla,
Mr. Ervin Ðember, CRP Tuzla and Mr. Hamid Mehinoviæ, Energis Sarajevo.
