China invested more in clean energy than any other nation in 2012, coming ahead of the United States and Germany, according to the 2013 edition of ‘Who’s Winning the Clean Energy Race?’: a report by the Pew Charitable Trusts.

China attracted $65.1bn in clean energy investment, 20 percent more than in 2011 and 30 percent of the G-20 total. The report concludes that “China is the world’s leader and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future”.

In recent years the world’s largest energy consumer has expanded its capacity in renewable energy in an effort to cut its levels of carbon intensity—the amount of carbon dioxide produced per unit of GDP—by 17 percent by the end of 2015. In 2012, it achieved a 3.5% cut, according to officials.
