The European Commission has selected 44 projects to share €58 million under the Intelligent Energy program, which aims to promote wider use of renewables and energy efficiency technologies.

The projects cover a wide range of topics from efforts
aimed at boosting the adoption of some of the first full-sized wave and tidal
stream energy generation technologies to improving the energy efficiency of
freight transport.

Also under scrutiny will be the increased use of biomass
and biowaste. The UrbanBiogas project will bring five European cities together
to explore the potential of using urban waste to produce biomethane, which can
be fed into natural gas grids or used in the transport sector. The partners
expect to generate around €17 million to invest in waste-to-biomethane
projects.

Energy efficiency also features on the agenda, with the
CASCADE project sharing information and training officials across 18 European
cities, including Milan, Amsterdam and Warsaw, on energy efficient
refurbishment, transport and renewable energy.

Meanwhile, the EurotoptenMax project will aim to set up
and maintain 19 national websites highlighting the most energy efficient
products and services for consumers, based on updated market surveys.
