Electricity bills for an average household in the Republic of Srpska will be higher by 60 pfennigs from January for the introduction of incentives of electricity production from renewable energy sources.

As learned in the Regulatory Commission for Energy of the Republic of Srpska, headquartered in Trebinje, citizens will be pay about 7 KM on an annual basis.

According to the Head of Tariff and Market Regulatory Commission Nada Ceranic, all consumers will pay a fee of 0.18 pfennigs on a monthly basis for kilowatt-hour of electricity without taxes and will be reported as a separate item on each customer’s bill.

She says that the Law on Energy provides that the tariff for energy provide a means of stimulating the production of electricity using renewable energy sources and efficient cogeneration.

She added that the Decree on the production of electricity from renewable sources of RS will provide incentives for electricity production from small hydro power plants, power plants on solid biomass, wind, solar and biogas plants in agriculture, and in efficient cogeneration plant.

In the current year, renewable energy production will be approximately about 69 GWh of electricity, which is six times higher compared to 2010 when it produced about 10 GWh of electricity.
