Heating system of Kakanj to Sarajevo solution for pollution of the capital city?

As one of the solutions that would improve air quality in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the colder part of the year, is mentioned heating system Kakanj-Sarajevo.

This project was first mentioned more than 30 years. Unfortunately, since then nothing has been done.

– With a slight increase in the consumption of coal in TPP Kakanj, we would get the proper amount of heat. And the pipeline is sized on the 300 megawatts of thermal energy. As for pollution contributions are expressed and significant in terms of reducing emissions of harmful pollutants into the atmospheresaid the BHT1 Ejub Džaferović, coordinator of the feasibility study the heating system of KakanjSarajevo.

Study of JP Elektroprivreda BiH is envisaged that the system of distribution of thermal energy to be centralized, but considering that it was located on the Corridor 5C, except Sarajevo, heating of Kakanj they would have had in Visoko, Breza and Ilijas.

The study showed that the project is technically feasible, financially viable and socially justified – he explained, adding that the total investment amounts to 230 million KM.

Elektroprivreda BiH is interested in this project, but also point out that the necessary support to the Federal Government, the Government of Canton Sarajevo and Zenica-Doboj Canton, and the municipalities that are in the scope of the project in securing the necessary conditions.

In Kakanj think that the construction of the heating system would enable the development of the electricity sector, which is very important because a third of the population of this town is employed at the mine and thermal power plant.

– Through the experience we have with district heating, warm and recommend it to others. This is a long-told story that we started getting on our nervous, it is time to take concrete actions – says Nermin Mandra, Head of Kakanj.
