Today, the largest solar power plant in the world located on the border of California and Nevada started to produce electricity.

This solar power plant, among other things consists of 300,000 computer-controlled mirrors that are 2 meters high and 3 meters wide. These mirrors get direct sunlight from the top of three towers 140 meters high, where the water is converted into steam, which then drives turbines to create electricity. This is the largest operating solar power plant in the world, which bears the name Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System.

After overcoming all the legal and regulatory issues, solar power plant began operations today. It is owned by the company NRG Energy, BrightSource Energy and Google.

Solar power covers about 13 square kilometers on the border of California and Nevada. It produces 392 MW, which is enough electricity for 140,000 households in California. Very important is that it is a “clean energy”, thus avoiding the release of about 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to removing 72,000 cars from the road.
