At the award ceremony 14.06. were declared winners, the Municipality Pokupsko took the award in the category of public sector gaining the most votes.
EUSEW award is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy, which is awarded on an annual basis. For the award this year applied almost 200 projects of which was selected nine successful projects that contribute to a cleaner environment and sustainable energy in the community.
“This is the culmination of the Week of sustainable energy as it demonstrates the best that Europe can offer when it comes to sustainable energy and renewable sources,” said Miguel Arias Canete, European Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action at yesterday’s opening ceremony.
Municipality Pokupsko in competition for the award in the category of public sector took the prestigious award, and in the same category were Cyprus and Ireland.
“We are proud and very honored by the award which is the result of the vision and hard work. These changes we do for the benefit of people and the planet Earth. Together we can achieve great results that can be an example for Europe”, according to the Municipality of Pokupsko for EUSEW.
The project is a biomass heating plant and was carried out by the Municipality of Pokupsko and Regional Energy Agency of Northwest Croatian and is the first project of its kind in Croatia. Plant was opened last fall, and is built entirely with money from the EU IPARD. In the heating plant 1 MW so far is connected thirty users who get free connections and thermal stations.
