A group of researchers led by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) found a process in photo-electro chemical cells that could affect the switch from solar to chemical energy.

KIT’s Institute of Functional Interfaces (IGF) has studied the conversion process using photo catalyst based on titanium oxide that are used for the direct conversion of solar energy into chemical – such as the creation of decomposition of hydrogen molecules of water.

With the help of the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, and Bochum and the Helmholtz Research Center in Germany, researchers have come to new insights about basic mechanisms of photochemistry over Titanium Dioxide.
