The Minister of Energy of Serbia, Zorana Mihajlovic has announced investments in the modernization of the hydropower plant Pirot worth 10 to 20 million euros.

Ms. Mihajlovic said that it would be safe to work on modernization of the equipment so the hydropower plant can operate more efficiently during peak hours.

According to her, only to be discussed with international financial institutions in order to provide the necessary funds. “The management of EPS and the ministry will work on an investments plan in Pirot HPP, and it is possible that this will already be a part of this year’s business plan of EPS, which will soon be adopted,” she said.

She recalled that the HPP Pirot is the youngest hydropower plants in Serbia, aged 23 years, that works during the peak load of the electric power system of Serbia.

Mihajlovic pointed out that there is a problem in cooperation between local government and the leadership of HE Pirot regarding the expropriation of land, which slows hydropower projects, and announced that the Ministry of Energy will personally address these problems.
