Tents with solar photovoltaic cells that can produce electricity for basic needs for camping are slowly and surely becoming a reality.

After many natural disasters that are happening lately (earthquake in Japan, typhoon Katrina and others), and the need for simple, reliable and portable power sources that can be used during disasters but also for camping in the beautiful nature, many firms are developing tents that use solar photovoltaic cells.

Orange is one of those companies that have been developing a solar tent concept that present every few years is the Glastonbury Festival (last 2009). The tent was developed together with the consulting firm Kaleidoscope, and the goal was to show visitors of the festival in the future to cover the needs for communication and energy in the tent.

Recent research has shown that through special solar fibers that are part of the tent, they come up with new ways of using solar energy: a concept tent used this technology with three Sliding elements that can be moved during the day to maximize solar efficiency.

The heart of this tent is a central wireless center that shows the amount of electricity produced and how much was spent. It also provides a wireless signal for internet and has a wireless charger for mobile phones and floor heating which is automatically turned on after the temperature falls below a certain degree.
