Spanish electricity production from renewable energy sources during the first two months in 2011 accounted for 38% of total electricity consumption of that State, provided that wind farms produced nearly half of it. These are the official data from the network operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE).

It was only two percent below the target for their goal of producing 40%
of energy from renewable sources by 2020. That is double the share of nuclear
energy and almost twice as much gas from cogeneration plants that have a 21%
share in total consumption.

Looking at renewable energy sources, large and small hydroelectric power
plants had a share of 19%, and the wind had a share of 17%. The Spanish
government aims to 20.8% share of production in total consumption from wind
power by 2020.
