With season change and lower temperatures that are current throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina the preparations for a new heating season begins. High energy prices will significantly affect the household budgets, regardless of weather conditions that will govern the country, especially this season when their prices are very high.

The price of all energy sources, which are traditionally used in Bosnia and Herzegovina, increased, where the price of gas increased by 10% while the price of heating oil increased by 12.1% compared to the previous heating season. In particular, electricity prices increased by a significant 15.77%.

Gas prices (0.78 KM/m3) and fuel oil (1.85 KM / l) are approaching the rates in 2008, when they were very high dictated by the Russian-Ukrainian situation. This season, gas prices compared to 2008 are cheaper by only 0.05 KM/m3. The earlier research was accompanied by Energis heating costs the average household in Sarajevo, which uses gas as the main energy source.

This data are used for calculating energy costs at prices for the coming season, which is presented in the following table.

The table indicates that the above household will pay an additional 107.59 KM for gas consumption during the 6 months of the heating season. The same household in that period paid an average of 85 KM for electricity, or 510 KM in total. According to the new rates, households will pay 15.77% more or 590 KM, an increase of 80 KM. With higher fuel prices for cars, households will pay 15% more for the same amount of energy compared to the previous season, the most in the last five years.

The situation is similar with other fuels, so the cubic meter of beech wood for fuel is between 79 and 90 km (an increase of 10 KM in average), and one ton of coal is between 135 and 195 KM and a slight increase over the previous year.

Looking at this data, as well as announcements that the price of energy continues to grow, the time is right to begin to apply the basic energy efficiency measures. Energis.ba portal will offer advice, proposals and practical solutions on how to reduce energy consumption without compromising the living conditions. Energy efficiency can reduce energy consumption by up to 40%, which significant savings both in the economic as well as by the environmental sense.
