The first solar power plant in Serbia will be in the village of Merdare, in the municipality of Kuršumlija, said the president of the municipality Vesna Jakovljevic.

That decision was made after the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) concluded that the municipality has the most sunniest days per year, a solar power plant alone would cost around 5 million Euros.

Negotiations on the construction began a month ago in Belgrade, a major investor in the project is an Italian company Multienergy. A specific agreement will soon be made with the investor to start construction of the plant.

The solar power plant will have an installed capacity of 2 MW and will be connected to the EPS’s grid.
