While you heard for Costarica as a country of beautiful beaches and rich biodiversity, this country in Central America can commend with impressive achievement and that is getting all its energy from renewable energy for 75 days.

The main reason for this impressive result, especially if we take into consideration that this is country in development, is excess in rainfall in the region which allowed increase in production electricity from hydro energy. Of course there is help from geothermal energy, solar energy and wind energy. This tropical country announced construction of new renewable power plants.

This country has 4.8 million people and thanks to its good position and favorable climate, it uses hydro energy from excess in
rainfall and the large number of volcanos open possibility for geothermal energy. Hydropower is responsible for 80% of the electricity produced while geothermal represents 10% of the energy mix in this country. There is new project planned for construction of three geothermal plants with a total power of 150 MW which realization is going to be financed by Japan and Europe banks.

The ultimate goal for Costarica is to become CO2 neutral country by 2021 and not to exploit oil reserves along the coast. One of
the main reasons for development of renewable energy is that Costarica does not have army since 1948 which allowed investment funds to go in this way.
