After the recent opening of the application for the concession to build a wind farm on the plateau of Podvelezje, the Government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton has adopted the decision to grant a concession to Elektroprivreda BiH for the land use on the plateau of Podveležje.

This created all the necessary prerequisites
for the start of the construction of the wind farm  “Podveležje”, a first one of a kind energy
complex in BiH, which will use wind power to generate electricity.
16 wind turbines will be build with the
capacity of 46MW.

“Elektroprivreda BiH has already prepared all the necessary
documentation, based upon measurements of wind power in this area, so I am
pleased to say that we will have two wind turbines by September of this year a capacity
of 2 MW connected to our grid. The second phase of implementation of this Project
starts in 2012, when the remaining 14 wind turbines with individual power
ranging from 2 to 3 MW will be built. This decision of the Government allows us
to access the SEEWIND project funds and the European Commission by 715.000 Euros”,
said the Jerlagiæ.

This 125 million KM worth project will employ local companies,
which will be a significant contribution to employment of local building
operations, transportation capacity and metal industries.

“At the same time, building a wind farm, will significantly
improve the standard of living in a rather inaccessible plateau of Podvelezje
because we are obliged to build some infrastructure networks, and some necessary
facilities for the population of this area”, said Jerlagiæ.
