Vienna: Old Christmas trees are becoming electricity

Last year they collected trees the whole month supplied 960 households with electricity and 2,200 households with central heating.

Vienna municipal waste management facility (MA 48) and this year will be ensuring that worn out Christmas trees do not end up in the trash.

Since yesterday, 27 December, until January 13 2017 residents of Vienna their Christmas trees can like every year submit to the special designated places.

This year, in Vienna there are 519 such public places to collect Christmas trees, and employees of MA 48 department appealed to the citizens of the pine make ornaments and decorations.

All of the collected Christmas trees in Vienna are exploited for the production of electricity and central heating.

Last year, collected 685 tons or 157,000 Christmas trees, of which produced 1,700 MWh of energy. That was enough to supply 960 households with electricity and 2,200 households with central heating entire month.

Organized collection of Christmas trees began in Vienna in 1990, when the citizens available stood 220 locations for the collection. Since then by this was collected over 2.4 million Christmas trees.
